S.O.A.P. Study – a simple way to study the bible

If you’re looking for a simple way to study your Bible are aren’t sure how to start, here’s an easy way to just pick it up and grow! Four simple steps: S.O.A.P.

· S is for SCRIPTURE. Read a portion of Scripture. You may want to write it in a journal to help you to slow down and look at each word, allowing God’s Word to sink in a bit. Whether you write it down or not, read the section slowly and think about what is being said.

· O is for OBSERVATION. What do you see in the verses? What is happening? Do you see repetitive words or thoughts that add emphasis?

· A is for APPLICATION.  How can you apply what God is saying in His Word? What have you learned or what is important?

· P is for PRAYER. Pray about what you have read.  You can use the Scripture verses or just pray from your heart, sharing the thoughts you’ve had as you read God’s Word.

That’s it. Now just open your Bible!

Read John

The Gospel of John is a great place to start learning more about Jesus. It is filled with accounts from the life of Christ that open our eyes of faith! Watch how he interacts with people and listen to what he says. Learn about his life and ministry seeing it all in light of his work as our Savior.

Psalms

The Psalms were originally sung by God’s people in the Old Testament. They are rich with compassion, and their words of praise resonate in our hearts and churches! These words will bring you comfort and hope!

Proverbs

If you’re having a hard time getting started, turn to Proverbs and read the chapter that matches the date. For example, on the 14th of the month you read the 14th chapter. If you miss a day (or quite a few days) just pick it up again!
